The chronology of this section includes 9th through 13th century. Old Russian spear heads, battle axes, flails, battle and symbolic clubs, iron arrow heads, swords, sabers of Avar, Pecheneg and Cuman time periods are presented in the section exhibition. However, the highest interest is attracted by a small round shield of the Eastern "kalkan" type. Its leather base is reconstructed, but metal umbo and edging are authentic. The shield like this was widely used by Turkic peoples (Torkils, Karakalpaks (Chorni Klobuky) etc.) who served Russian princes.
